Job summary

Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Commack, NY is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician to join our clinical team. You will assist the pharmacist, read prescriptions, and prepare medication orders for our 460-bed facility, with emphasis on safety and efficiency.

Gurwin Jewish Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is a renowned healthcare provider located on Long Island, NY which offers a full continuum of services. The Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is a 460 bed facility providing services for short-term rehabilitation and long-term skilled nursing care, home care programs, an adult day health program, ventilator dependent care, palliative and hospice care, a Memory Care Unit and on-site dialysis. The Gurwin Family of Services also includes the 201-apartment Gurwin Jewish ~ Fay J. Lindner assisted living community and Fountaingate Gardens independent living community on the Commack campus.

We are currently seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician. We are seeking candidates who will embody the passion and commitment required to deliver the ultimate care for our residents. You will be scheduled 5 days per week for a total of 37.5 hours.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred. High School Diploma - Minimum 2 years SNF, DSS or related experience. Candidate must be computer literate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the pharmacist in a variety of functions within the pharmacy and also on the nursing units and clinic areas. All such functions will be under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
• Able to read prescriptions and prepare all medication orders according to policy.
• Must be familiar with brand and generic drug names and strengths.
• Acts as a messenger for picking up physician orders and for delivering medications to all Nursing Stations in a timely manner according to the pharmacy rounds schedule.
• Delivers appropriate stock medications to Nursing Stations and ensure all medications
• In the Medication Room check that medications are in date, stored appropriately and labeled properly.
• Check pharmacy inventory and remove all expired medications from dispensing areas. Coordinate return of expired medications and discontinued patient medications to reverse company distribution for credit or proper destruction according to policy.
