Job summary

NEW Health in Colville, WA is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist the Pharmacist in dispensing medications and delivering patient care in a full-time role.

The position requires PTCB/NHA certification and active WA (and possibly ID) licenses. You will work with pharmacy software and EHRs, handle refills, and maintain accurate records while providing excellent customer service in a collaborative team setting.

Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification required (PTCB or NHA).
  • Washington locations require active Pharmacy Technician license with WA DOH at hire.
  • Idaho locations require active Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with ID Board of Pharmacy at hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Pharmacist in dispensing prescriptions and patient counseling.
  • Reconstitute, label, and file prescriptions.
  • Process prescriptions and manage pharmacy records and data in software systems.
  • Handle refills requests and communications with providers, patients, and suppliers.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of glassware and equipment.
  • Travel may be required.

Purpose of the Job

Improve the overall health of the communities we serve by expanding the availability of health care by assisting the Pharmacist in providing prescriptions to patients as follows.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Reconstitutes pharmaceutical drugs, fills bottles with prescribed medication, and completes labels for bottles.
  • Files prescriptions and retrieves pharmacy records as required.
  • Files completed prescriptions alphabetically on shelf for patient pick-up in the pharmacy. Sells prescriptions when requested to do so by Pharmacist where no counseling is deemed necessary.
  • Accepts phone calls to/from pharmacy regarding prescription refills by number, pricing information, provider refill requests, business hours, availability of goods and services, etc.
  • Places, receives, unpacks, and stores incoming supplies and drug orders.
  • Collects payments from patients and other related front counter tasks.
  • Processes prescriptions dispensed to patient, computes charges, and enters data in computer utilizing pharmacy and health center software systems.
  • Requests refills on behalf of patient to appropriate provider.
  • Cleans equipment and sterilizes glassware according to prescribed methods.
  • Counts and pours from stock bottles for individual prescriptions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and the accuracy of the prescription contents is checked by licensed pharmacist.
  • Transcribes orders and the accuracy is checked by licensed pharmacists.
  • Preforms tasks under pharmacist’s supervisor, such as obtaining prepackaged labeled medications for prescriptions, obtains stock bottles for prescription filling.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
  • Travel may be required.
Qualifications

Education/Experience: Pharmacy Technician Board (PTCB or NHA) certification required. Washington locations must have active Pharmacy Technician Certification license with WA Department of Health at time of hire. Idaho locations must have active Certified Pharmacy Technician Registration license with ID State Board of Pharmacy at time of hire. Experience as a pharmacy technician preferred. Experience with third party billing required. Experience with electronic health records required.

Skills: Excellent customer service, oral and written communications skills required. Compassion for patients required. Must be able to work well in team environment. Ability to multi-task in fast-paced work environment, with ability to anticipate future needs. Computer skills required. Medical terminology and accurate spelling ability required.

Physical Demands

Techs must be able to move around the facility between 1/3rd and 2/3rds of the day, while sitting at a workstation occurs under 1/3rd of the day. Using hands and reaching with arms occurs over 2/3rds of the day. Communicating is also required over 2/3rds of the day, while climbing, stooping or crawling is minimal. Smelling, while not required, is a by-product of the lab. Lifting up to 10 lbs occurs occasionally, while 25-50 lbs occurs infrequently.
