Job summary

Job description

Overview

Shift: 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Description
  • Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, procure, prepare, package, distribute, and dispose medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients.
  • Maintain an established inventory of drugs and commonly used supplies; re-order and stock items upon delivery to ensure immediate availability.
  • Maintain competency and follow departmental, USP, DEA, and FDA guidelines when repackaging and compounding pharmaceutical products.
  • Properly operate, troubleshoot, monitor, and clean departmental automation and equipment.
  • Ensure pharmacist product verification and facilitate the timely and appropriate distribution of medications to maintain product integrity.
  • Maintain accurate records and patient profiles, including charging and crediting.
  • Respond promptly to customers’ needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately.
  • Understand and implement appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks to ensure timely and safe patient care.
  • Assist with operational support functions, including minor housekeeping activities and department cleaning/disinfecting/decontaminating standards to maintain the work area.
  • Conduct regular quality assurance inspections focused on TJC requirements, including the examination of product integrity and expiration.
  • Maintain competency and follow departmental, OSHA, USP, and EPA guidelines to safely and accurately handle, prepare, distribute, and dispose of hazardous and non‑hazardous products.
  • Participate in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Complete all required training and competency assessments in a timely fashion.
  • Attend educational in‑services as appropriate.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Serve as a resource for less experienced staff, providing technical information and guidance in pharmacy techniques and policies to ensure the delivery of efficient, quality service.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
  • Successful completion of an ASHP accredited technician training program or enrollment in a professional‑related school preferred.
  • 6 months experience as a Pharmacy Technician or completion of an ASHP‑accredited tech training program preferred.
  • Current CPhT certification through either PTCB or NHA and active Georgia Pharmacy Technician registration, or current enrollment in an accredited School of Pharmacy with a current Georgia Pharmacy Intern license.
  • Must maintain certification and registration through the entire length of employment.
Physical Requirements

Medium‑Heavy. 36–75 lbs, 0–33% of the work day (occasionally); 20–35 lbs, 34–66% of the work day (frequently); 10–20 lbs, 67–100% of the work day (constantly); lifting 75 lbs max; carrying objects up to 35 lbs; occasional to frequent standing & walking; occasional sitting; close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing). Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: blood‑borne pathogens, bio‑hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care/handling injuries, radiation. Shift work and travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, may be required.
