Surgery Partners is hiring a Pharmacy Technician in Wisconsin for an evening, part-time role. The position supports pharmacists with preparation, packaging, labeling, and distribution of medications, including sterile products, within the hospital setting.

Under supervision, you will manage inventory, use Pyxis and pharmacy software, and help ensure regulatory compliance and patient safety in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Wisconsin registration as a pharmacy technician required.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician or certification within 3 months of hire.
• Hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
• Cell phone interfacing with secure messaging system required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, compound, and label medications per USP <797>/<800> standards.
• Repackage medications into unit-dose packaging with proper labeling.
• Operate automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis) accurately.
• Refill crash carts and emergency kits with correct contents.
• Deliver medications throughout the facility following chain-of-custody procedures.

Job Summary:

The Pharmacy Technician supports the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the organization's pharmacy department by assisting pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the pharmacy technician performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks, including medication preparation, unit dose packaging, sterile and non-sterile compounding, inventory control, and medication delivery to patient care areas. The Pharmacy Technician plays a key role in ensuring accurate and timely medication distribution, contributing to high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Job Functions:

• Prepare, compound, and label medications, including sterile IV admixtures, chemotherapy, and total parenteral nutrition (TPN), in accordance with USP <797> and <800> standards
• Repackage bulk medications into unit-dose packaging, ensuring proper labeling and documentation
• Accurately pull, deliver, and refill medications into automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis), ensuring correct medication stocking and appropriate dating
• Refill crash cart trays and emergency kits, ensuring all contents are accurate and within expiration
• Deliver medications including controlled substances promptly and accurately throughout the facility, following chain-of-custody procedures
• Order medications and pharmacy supply according to par levels and usage patterns
• Receive, unpack, and store medication deliveries, ensuring accurate counts and rotation of stock
• Rotate stock regularly and check for expired or recalled medications throughout the facility
• Maintain medication barcodes within pharmacy software systems for accurate tracking and dispensing
• Utilize pharmacy software systems to manage medications including preparation, distribution, documentation, and inventory control
• Print and analyze system reports to support medication management and compliance
• Troubleshoot issues within the medication distribution system and communicate effectively with the pharmacist and other key stakeholders to resolve problems
• Answer and screen incoming phone calls, directing inquiries to the appropriate pharmacy staff
• Participate in medication safety initiatives and support the implementation of quality improvement strategies
• Assist with other clerical or administrative duties
• Dispose of medications in accordance with organizational policy, state, and federal regulations
• Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy workspace, adhering to infection control, safety, and regulatory guidelines
• Maintain a limited formulary and follow procedures for handling non-formulary medications
• Ensure compliance with all state and federal drug laws and regulations governed by the State Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission standards, Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
• Report medication errors, near misses, and adverse drug reactions promptly in accordance with organizational policies and procedures
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and organizations policies
• Actively participate in organizational alert responses and emergency procedures
• Effectively communicate with pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and timely medication delivery
• Participate in the orientation, training, and mentoring of new pharmacy staff members and pharmacy students
• Actively participate in all relevant departmental meetings, training, and continuing education to support team communication and professional development
• Use the organization's secure messaging platform in accordance with departmental protocols, including timely receipt and responses to communications
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required
• Registration with the state of Wisconsin as a pharmacy technician required
• Certified Pharmacy Technician or certification within three (3) months of hire
• Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital environment preferred
• Must possess a cell phone that interfaces with the organization's secure messaging system
