Job summary

UVM Health - UVM Medical Center in Burlington, VT is seeking an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee. This role performs duties that do not require pharmacist training and aims to master compounding and filling medication orders, and deliveries to patient care areas.

The Trainee will learn to operate Pyxis and Carousel, maintain workflow, and may advance into specialty areas such as sterile compounding or hazardous compounding after completing central pharmacy competencies and Pyxis training.

Qualifications

• High school Diploma or GED plus one year of post high school education or relevant work experience preferred.
• Certification with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) is needed for promotion within the Pharmacy Technician.
• Trainee will register with the State of Vermont Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician before the start of employment.

Responsibilities

• Learn and demonstrate mastery of compounding and filling medication orders.
• Deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas; manage technology including Carousel and Pyxis.
• Maintain effective workflow within the department when staffing as expeditor. Upon completion of all central pharmacy competencies and the Pyxis competency, may advance into and train in other specialty areas such as sterile or hazardous compounding, O.R., or In‑Basket.

The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee will learn and demonstrate the mastery of compounding and filling medication orders, deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas, managing technology including Carousel and Pyxis. The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee learns and demonstrates the ability to maintain effective workflow within the department when staffing as expeditor. Upon completion of all central pharmacy competencies and the Pyxis competency, the Inpatient Pharmacy Technician Trainee may advance into and train in other specialty areas such as sterile compounding, hazardous compounding, O.R., Controlled Substances, or In‑Basket.
