Job summary

MercyOne Central Iowa is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to support the delivery of pharmaceutical care at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. Duties include preparing medications, delivering IV admixtures, stocking supplies, and assisting pharmacists under supervision.

Qualified candidates will have an HS diploma or GED (or NHA certification), PTCB certification, and Iowa Board of Pharmacy registration.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED if nationally certified through NHA; PTCB certification does not require HS.
• National Pharmacy Technician Certification and registration with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Prepares medication orders.
• Delivers medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms and critical care areas.
• Restocks automated medication dispensing machines and tackle boxes.
• Assists pharmacists with audits and unit inspections.
• Communicates stock utilization and ordering needs.
• Prepares IV admixtures including TPNs, chemotherapy IVs, IV piggybacks, and syringes.
• Provides training and mentoring to new employees and assists in directing workflow.

We are looking to hire a Certified Pharmacy Tech. As a Certified Pharmacy Tech at MercyOne, provides technical support in the delivery of pharmaceutical care to clients of MercyOne Central Iowa Medical Center. Technical support includes the preparation and delivery of medications and sterile products, stocking and ordering of drugs and other products. Technical work is performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Schedule: 8-hours Evenings 10:30 AM – 7:00 PM

General Requirements

• Prepares medication orders.
• Delivers medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
• Credits to the patient and restocks usable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy.
• Assists the pharmacists with audits and completes assigned unit inspections.
• Restocks automated medication dispensing machines.
• Restocks tackle boxes and cart inserts (crash carts, airway carts, latex carts), and completes check in/out process.
• Communicates stock utilization and ordering needs.
• Compounds and labels extemporaneous liquid and solid products for patients according to procedure.
• Prepares IV admixtures including TPNs, chemotherapy IVs, IV piggybacks, and syringes following strictly described, specific policies and procedures.
• Provides training and mentoring to new employees and assists in directing workflow as needed.
• Other duties as needed and assigned by the manager.

Education

High School Diploma or GED when nationally certified through NHA. PTCB nationally certified technicians do NOT require HS diploma or GED. National Pharmacy Technician Certification and Registered with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy at time of hire and proof of. Completion of Mandatory Reporter training for children and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
