UC Health is hiring a Pharmacy Technician Trainee for Outpatient Pharmacy at the University of Cincinnati’s Medical Center.

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technician trainees work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma is the minimum required. College courses are desirable but not required.

License and Certification: Current pharmacy technician registration by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. Must obtain a certified technician certificate within one year of hire. All technicians must maintain registration and certification throughout their employment with the UC Health Pharmacy Department.

Experience: No experience required. One to two years of equivalent experience preferred.

Expected starting salary range: $16.15/hr. - $19.76/hr.

The actual pay rate depends on experience, skills, internal and market factors.

Responsibilities

• Pick up orders, requisitions, and medications for return during delivery rounds.
• Answer calls and requests for stat deliveries to patient care and ancillary areas.
• Provide clear instructions to patients/families regarding treatment, involving family/guardians as needed.
• Accept new prescription orders from prescribers or their agents.
• Participate in quality improvement activities, including medication storage inspections, outdated medication replacement, and documentation.
• Prepare and affix medication labels; count and pour dangerous drugs; prepare non-sterile compounds.
• Prepare intravenous and sterile preparations, including chemotherapy and nutrition, under supervision.
