Job summary

LCMC Health Lakeside Hospital in Metairie, LA is seeking a Senior Pharmacy Technician to provide technical support, prepare medications, deliver medications, and exchange cart fills under SOPs and regulatory requirements.

This role guides junior technicians and participates in quality assurance, training, and ensuring patient safety through accurate compounding and timely distribution in a demanding hospital setting.

Qualifications

• 3 years as a Pharmacy/hospital pharmacy technician
• High School Diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training preferred
• Pharmacy Technician Certification required

Responsibilities

• Prepare unit dose, oral, and IV meds and stock medications
• Deliver medications and ensure product verification
• Triage requests, manage calls, and prioritize tasks
• Conduct quality assurance inspections and maintain logs
• Participate in training, competency assessments, and education
• Guide and support junior technicians

Job description

Your job is more than a job. The Pharmacy Technician Senior provides technical support to the pharmacy/healthcare professional(s) through medication preparation, delivery of medications, and cartfill exchange. Performs technical duties in accordance with standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements. Provides direction to new/junior technicians as required.

GENERAL DUTIES

• Medication Preparation: Procures, receives, prepares, packages, distributes, and disposes of medications and pharmaceutical supplies to assist the department in providing quality pharmaceutical care for all patients. Prepares unit dose, compound oral, and intravenous medications. Repackages medications in unit dosage forms. Stocks medications and supplies. Follows appropriate ordering procedures, restocks medications and other supplies in patient care areas/clinics.
• Medication Delivery: Ensures product verification by the appropriate pharmacy professional and facilitates the distribution of medications to maintain product integrity.
• Prioritization and Triaging: Responds to customers' needs by answering phone calls, receiving and distributing messages, and triaging requests appropriately. Understands, implements appropriate time management and prioritization of tasks ensuring optimum patient care.
• Quality Assurance: Conducts regular quality assurance inspections/audits focused on TJC/LBOP requirements, including product and equipment examinations regarding integrity and expiration. Completes logs to include refrigerator/freezer temperature monitoring and required cleaning.
• Training/Education/Professional: Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments. Completes all required training, competency assessments and attends educational in-services as appropriate.
• Guidance: Provides guidance to new team members and junior level technicians as required.

EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

Required: 3 years as a Pharmacy/hospital pharmacy technician

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent or Technical/vocational school
