Qualifications

Summary:

Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacists, Clinical Pharmacy Technician provides advanced clinical and operational support for Specialty Care Pharmacy patients receiving high-cost, high-risk medications for complex and chronic disease states. Serves as a specialty pharmacy subject matter expert responsible for coordinating medication access, financial assistance, payer navigation, and care continuity for patients receiving specialty therapies. This position performs specialized medication access requests, financial assistance, insurance resolutions, and patient care coordination while collaborating with pharmacists, providers, payers, and care teams to optimize and ensure continuity of care.

Responsibilities:

• Meets and demonstrates competency in all functions and advanced specialty pharmacy responsibilities.
• Performs comprehensive benefit investigations, insurance eligibility verification, and coverage determinations for specialty medications.
• Coordinates prior authorizations, appeals, and payer communications with providers, clinics, and insurance plans to facilitate timely medication access.
• Assesses patients for manufacturer copay assistance, foundation grants, patient assistance programs, and other financial support resources.
• Conducts 340B eligibility verification and maintains compliance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinates specialty medication onboarding activities including patient enrollment, intake, documentation, and prescription processing.
• Collaborates with pharmacists and care teams to support disease-state specific therapy management and monitoring workflows.
• Conducts patient outreach and follow-up activities to support medication adherence, refill coordination, therapy continuation, and access to care.
• Communicates with patients, providers, manufacturers, foundations, and payers regarding medication access, financial assistance, shipment coordination, and therapy-related requirements.
• Performs data entry, documentation, and maintenance of patient records within pharmacy and electronic health record systems.
• Performs inventory management, medication acquisition tracking, returns processing, and specialty medication supply management activities.
• Assists with claims adjudication, billing resolution, and reimbursement-related activities.
• Ensures compliance with departmental, organizational, state, federal, payer, and accreditation requirements.
• Performs additional duties and special projects as assigned.
• Maintains knowledge of specialty disease states, treatment pathways, and payer requirements.
• Supports specialty programs serving patients with oncology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, neurology, pulmonary, infectious disease, and other complex chronic conditions.
• Assists with coordination of clinical documentation required for payer approval and therapy continuation.
• Acts as a primary liaison between patients, providers, pharmacists, clinics, manufacturers, and payers to facilitate therapy initiation and continuation.
• Coordinates transitions of care to prevent treatment delays and interruptions.
• Identifies and escalates barriers to therapy adherence, medication access, or treatment continuation.
• Investigates and resolves complex medication access issues involving payer restrictions, network limitations, benefit design, reimbursement challenges, and financial assistance resources.
• Exercises independent judgment in coordinating multiple stakeholders to support timely patient access to therapy.
• Supports specialty pharmacy accreditation, quality improvement initiatives, audits, and reporting requirements.
• Maintains documentation in accordance with specialty pharmacy accreditation standards and regulatory expectations.
• Participates in program performance monitoring and quality metric tracking.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED plus Short-term training in the areas of pharmacy law, practices standards, terminology, pharmacy math, drug preparation, dosage forms and trade/generic names.
• Pharmacy Technician National Certification (PTCB or ExCPT certification) required.
• Active New Mexico Board of Pharmacy. Pharmacy technician license required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician
