Job summary

Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Pharmacy Technician I to assist pharmacists in procuring, storing, preparing, distributing, and delivering medications for patients.

Duties include sterile and non-sterile compounding, medication history collection, and using pharmacy software for requisitions and billing. Responsibilities involve maintaining inventory, supporting medication use programs, and providing frontline pharmacy customer service within a hospital setting.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Required
  • 6+ months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician I at Phoenix Children’s OR 2+ years hospital pharmacy experience. Required
  • Experience with automated dispensing cabinets or equivalent. Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, dispense and deliver medications and supplies to patient care areas.
  • Perform sterile and non-sterile compounding of cytotoxic medications per regulations.
  • Perform sterile compounding of hazardous and non-hazardous medications with proper records.
  • Perform non-sterile compounding and repackaging with appropriate verification by a pharmacist.
  • Assist in obtaining medication histories and maintaining competency in related areas.
  • Use pharmacy information software to process requisitions and medication requests; bill meds when appropriate.

Position Summary

This position, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the procurement, storage, preparation, distribution, and delivery of medications and information and other pharmaceutical products to Phoenix Children’s patients in a timely and accurate fashion and in accordance with established regulations and procedures. This position performs hazardous and non-hazardous sterile and non-sterile compounding. This position must maintain at least two (2) position specific competencies in accordance with the Pharmacy Department competency requirements. This position receives direct supervision from Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisors and Managers.

Position Qualifications
Education
  • 1. High School Diploma or equivalent. Required
Experience
  • 1. 6 or more months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician I at Phoenix Children’s OR 2 or more years of hospital pharmacy experience at an outside institution. Required
  • 2. Experience with automated dispensing cabinets or equivalent. Preferred
Special Skills
  • 1. Experience with various types of computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite. Required
Additional Requirements
  • 1. Licensed Pharmacy Technician in the State of Arizona. Required
  • 2. National Certification PTCB, ExCPT or equivalent. Required
  • 3. Current BLS Certification, Medication History Certificate, and/or Technician Product Verification Certificate. Preferred
  • 4. Certified in Sterile Product & Cytotoxic Compounding or equivalent experience. Preferred
