Job Responsibilities and Expectations
Where state and federal laws/regulations allow, accountable for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations and administrative activities; ensures efficient pharmacy workflow and a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.
Responsible for operating pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervises pharmacy technicians and pharmacy cashiers within the guidelines of authorized company policies, laws, regulations, and business ethics.
Responsible for the selection, scheduling, and development of pharmacy technician personnel. Leads training, coaching, and performance management of pharmacy technicians. Makes decisions regarding performance management including discipline and termination.
Customer Experience
- Engages customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves customer complaints, responds to requests promptly, and answers non-clinical questions to ensure a positive customer experience. Shares customer service best practices.
- Develops strong relationships with customers by anticipating needs and proactively offering services to enhance their experience, including healthcare services.
Operations
- Assists pharmacists in delivering patient care, including registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, counting, and verification (where legal). Handles patient and physician calls under pharmacist supervision. Assists with healthcare services like administering vaccines and health screenings, where permitted by law.
- Exercises independent judgment within authorized policies to delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work, ensuring tasks are completed timely and workflow is efficient.
- Prepares and files reports and records as directed by the Pharmacy Manager or pharmacist, complying with legal and company standards.
- Manages pharmacy workflow, organizes daily activities, recommends scheduling, and maintains a clean, stocked environment.
- Ensures compliance and manages administrative activities and inventory tasks without pharmacist licensure, including annual inventory preparation.
- Completes non-clinical patient calls and drives technology/process rollouts, engaging the team in change management.
- Maintains pharmacy equipment, ensures security, and supports recordkeeping in collaboration with the Pharmacy Manager.
- Adheres to Good Faith Dispensing policies and supports asset protection efforts, reporting concerns to the Pharmacy Manager.
- Communicates prescription errors and follows quality improvement protocols. Ensures accurate insurance processing and manages third-party audits.
- Supports pharmacy financial and operational improvements, manages community outreach, and coordinates off-site immunization clinics and community events.
People & Performance Management
- Leads technician performance management, including disciplinary actions, and ensures compliance with legal standards. Responsible for hiring, onboarding, training, and scheduling technicians.
- Identifies training gaps, supports team development, and monitors licensure and certifications for compliance.
Training & Personal Development
- Maintains PTCB certification and pursues ongoing education and certifications. Engages in performance improvement and professional development activities.
Communication
- Maintains effective communication with the pharmacy team and participates in meetings and store check-ins.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- PTCB or ExCPT certification (excluding Puerto Rico).
- At least one year of pharmacy technician experience in a retail or hospital setting.
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking; excluding Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
