Pharmacy Technician Job Description
Responsible for performing day-to-day non-clinical pharmacy operations, administrative activities, and ensuring efficient pharmacy workflow to provide a positive patient experience. Serves as a full-time certified pharmacy technician.
- Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Under pharmacist supervision, oversee pharmacy technicians and cashiers within legal and company guidelines.
- Lead the selection, scheduling, training, coaching, and performance management of pharmacy technicians. Make decisions regarding performance, discipline, and termination.
Customer Experience
- Engage customers and patients by greeting, assisting, resolving complaints, and answering non-clinical questions to promote a positive experience. Share customer service best practices.
- Develop strong relationships by anticipating needs and proactively offering services, focusing on healthcare services to enhance the customer experience.
Operations
- Assist pharmacists with patient care activities, including registration, prescription data entry, medication preparation, and verifying prescriptions where legal. Support healthcare services like vaccinations and health screenings under pharmacist supervision.
- Delegate, direct, and assign non-clinical work within legal and company guidelines, ensuring timely completion and accountability.
- Prepare and file reports required by the company and government agencies. Manage pharmacy workflow, organize daily schedules, and ensure the pharmacy is maintained properly.
- Handle inventory management, including annual preparations, and ensure compliance with all regulations and policies.
- Drive technology and process improvements, maintain equipment, and ensure security measures are in place.
- Adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policies and monitor for diversion, reporting concerns to the Pharmacy Manager.
- Process insurance claims accurately, resolve issues, and participate in audits.
- Support financial, operational, and customer service improvements.
- Manage community outreach activities, including off-site clinics and partnerships.
People & Performance Management
- Lead technician performance management, including disciplinary actions, onboarding, training, and scheduling. Ensure compliance with licensure and certification requirements.
- Identify training gaps and support team development through various training methods.
Training & Personal Development
- Maintain PTCB certification and pursue ongoing education and certifications.
- Engage in professional development, seek feedback, and leverage mentorship opportunities.
Communication
- Maintain effective communication within the pharmacy team and participate in meetings and check-ins.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- PTCB or ExCPT certification (except in Puerto Rico).
- At least one year of pharmacy technician experience in retail or hospital settings.
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
