Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Akron General, part of the Cleveland Clinic Health System, seeks a Pharmacy Manager for Sterile Compounding to lead a multi-site sterile operations team. You will guide pharmacists and technicians, ensure USP 797/800 compliance, and drive quality and safety across inpatient, infusion and cancer center units.

The role requires leadership experience, a registered pharmacist license, and a track record in health-system pharmacy administration.

Qualifications

• Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible within 90 days of hire.
• Completion of a health-system Pharmacy Administration or Leadership (HSPAL) PGY2 Residency OR four years of relevant pharmacy experience including one year of leadership experience.
• Pharmacy degree with current state licensure is preferred.
• MS, MBS, PharmD and/or residency are considered advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee sterile compounding operations across Akron General Inpatient Pharmacy, Akron General Cancer Center and the Green, Bath and Stow Infusion Centers.
• Provide leadership for approximately 30 caregivers, including infusion pharmacists and sterile compounding technicians.
• Ensure compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 standards and maintain related competencies and certifications.
• Support operational excellence, regulatory compliance and professional development across all sterile compounding sites.
• Participate in an on-call rotation approximately every 10 to 11 weeks and manage program while on call.
• Establish work assignments and schedules; coordinate orientation and training of new staff.
• Monitor financials and other pertinent statistics to support department performance.
• Maintain records of narcotics, poisons and habit-forming drugs in accordance with laws.

As a Pharmacy Manager, a caregiver in this role will oversee sterile compounding operations across Akron General Inpatient Pharmacy, Akron General Cancer Center and the Green, Bath and Stow Infusion Centers. The caregiver will provide leadership for approximately 30 caregivers, including infusion pharmacists and sterile compounding technicians, while ensuring compliance with USP 797 and USP 800 standards. Responsibilities will include oversight of sterile compounding competencies, annual training, fingertip and media-fill testing, cleanroom certification, compounding equipment and processes and quality assurance. The caregiver will also support operational excellence, regulatory compliance and professional development across all sterile compounding sites.

A caregiver in this position will work Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. The manager will participate in an on-call rotation approximately every 10 to 11 weeks and will have operational responsibilities for the program while on call.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Identify and meet patient needs utilizing continuous process improvement techniques.

• Identify and propose practical solutions to technical, professional, personnel or procedural problems affecting daily workflow.

• Ensure the department is adequately staffed with properly trained personnel.

• Establish work assignments and schedules.

• Participate in the development of operational and clinical program activities.

• Promote and develop the clinical activities of pharmacy caregivers through counseling, training and teaching.

• Train and instruct caregivers as to their duties.

• Coordinate orientation and training of new caregivers in job functions and responsibilities.

• Monitor financials and other pertinent statistics.

• Assist with evaluations of financial performance.

• Maintain records of narcotics, poisons, and habit-forming drugs received in accordance with state and federal laws.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible within 90 days of hire

• Completion of a health-system Pharmacy Administration or Leadership (HSPAL) PGY2 Residency OR four years of relevant pharmacy experience, including one year of leadership experience

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Pharmacy Degree with current state licensure

• MS, MBS, PharmD and/or residency

Physical Requirements:

• Physical demands include periods of standing and walking.
• Dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions and communication via telephone.
• May be required to lift and transport up to ten pounds.
• Requires normal or corrected vision.
