Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking a Pharmacy Technician in Training to support the pharmacy team in drug preparation, labeling, and inventory under direct pharmacist supervision.

You will interact with nurses, physicians, and patients to promote safe medication use, assist with ordering, billing, and record maintenance, and contribute to compliance with accreditation standards while building practical pharmacy experience.

Qualifications

• High School or GED is required or equivalent.
• Pharmacy Tech in Training with Board of Pharmacy exposure within 30 days or Pharmacy Intern with Board of Pharmacy exposure within 30 days.
• Bachelor's or Master’s pre-admission into a College of Pharmacy program preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under pharmacist supervision, input and prepare labels and packaging for inpatient or outpatient orders to ensure accurate medication delivery.
• Communicate with nursing staff, physicians, customers, and colleagues to promote high-quality patient care and safety.
• Demonstrate knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, and safety practices in a healthcare environment.
• Perform clerical tasks such as billing and inventory to support efficient distribution of medications.
• Assist with record collection and maintenance to comply with accreditation standards.
• Under supervision, obtain patient medication histories and provide education to improve adherence.
