Elevance Health is seeking a Pharmacy Intern who will interpret and enter moderately complex prescriptions, process prior authorizations, and help troubleshoot adjudication issues. This role supports clinical programs within the prior authorization space and requires current licensure as a Pharmacist Intern where applicable.

The internship offers hybrid/virtual work with required in-person training sessions, and is designed for students enrolled in an accredited pharmacy program who can work 20

• Current, active, unrestricted Pharmacist Intern license in applicable state(s).

Responsibilities

• Interpret and data-enter moderately complex prescriptions and perform prior authorization processing.
• Troubleshoot adjudication issues and assist in QA feedback for prior authorization decision trees.
• Assist in implementing clinical programs within the prior authorization space.
• Verify member, provider, and drug information and input data for the pharmacists.
• Educate providers on pharmacy rules and medication resources or assistance programs.
• Process prior authorization requests and ensure Medicare/Medicaid compliance; inform involved parties.

Location & Working Hours

This role enables associates to work virtually full-time, with the exception of required in-person training sessions, providing maximum flexibility and autonomy. This approach promotes productivity, supports work-life integration, and ensures essential face-to-face onboarding and skill development. The ideal candidate will reside within a commutable distance from our PulsePoint locations. Role Overview

The Pharmacy Intern will be responsible for the interpretation and data entry of moderately complex prescriptions, prior authorization processing, and troubleshooting adjudication issues.

Responsibilities

• Assists in developing and configuring prior authorization decision trees in the workflow tool
• Participates in quality assurance feedback from pharmacists of prior authorization decision trees within the workflow tool
• Assists in implementing clinical programs within the prior authorization space
• Verifies member, provider, and drug information and inputs data for the prior authorization pharmacists
• Educates providers on pharmacy-based rules related to prescriptions and medication resources or assistance programs
• Processes prior authorization requests from physicians’ offices and ensures compliance with Medicare and Medicaid requirements; informs relevant parties of all prior authorization determinations

Minimum Requirements

• Ability to work 20 per week for the duration of the internship
• Currently enrolled in a Pharmacy program at an accredited college or university
• A current, active, unrestricted Pharmacist Intern license in applicable state(s) required

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences

• 1st and 2nd year PharmD students are preferred
• Prior experience working in pharmacy retail is strongly preferred
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Excellent Communication skills, both written and oral
• Excellent Problem-solving, Analytical, and Organizational skills
• Excellent Public Speaking and Presentation skills
