Job Summary
The Pharmacy Fill Technician accurately prepares prescriptions, including the careful picking, labeling, scanning, and final preparation of prescriptions for the pharmacist's verification. They also assist in maintaining a well‑organized workspace and ensuring compliance with regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Pull/pick medications from shelving and other medication storage areas (pre‑pack racks).
- Accuracy check of final preparation before presenting to the pharmacist.
- Fill daily drug orders accurately, efficiently and in a timely prioritized manner under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Assist in processing returned drugs and recycling or disposing per procedure.
- Assist in pre‑packing frequently ordered medications; label and stock as needed during low‑volume times.
- Package materials and products manually.
- Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA.
- Maintain a clean/organized workstation area and replenish all stock supplies needed each shift.
- Alert the pharmacist on duty of any medication/product that is not scanning properly.
- Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
- Overtime, holidays, and weekends may be required and/or expected.
- Other duties as assigned; job duties may vary depending on business needs.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of brand name/generic medications.
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Able to work at a moderate speed.
- Able to work during inclement weather.
- Reliable.
- Detail‑focused with analytical problem‑solving skills.
- Able to physically perform light lifting.
- Must be able to work various shifts and day.
- Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Pharmacy technician licenses/certifications required by state regulations and state of practice.
- Previous pharmacy experience preferred (one or more years of long‑term care experience preferred).
Physical Demands
- May sit or stand seven (7) to ten (10) hours per day.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, bend, walk.
- May be necessary to work extended hours as needed.
- May lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
