Job Summary
The Pharmacy Fill Technician accurately prepares prescriptions, including picking, labeling, scanning, and final preparation of prescriptions for pharmacist verification. The Technician assists in maintaining an organized workspace and ensures compliance with regulations.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Pull/pick medications from shelving and other storage areas (pre‑pack racks).
- Perform accuracy checks of final preparation before presenting to the pharmacist.
- Fill daily drug orders accurately and efficiently, prioritizing under pharmacist supervision.
- Assist in processing returned drugs and recycle/dispose per procedure.
- Assist in pre‑packing frequently ordered medications; label and stock as needed during low‑volume times.
- Package materials and products manually.
- Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA.
- Maintain a clean, organized workstation and replenish stock supplies needed each shift.
- Alert the pharmacist on duty of any medication or product that is not scanning properly.
- Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.
- Overtime, holidays, and weekends may be required and/or expected.
- Complete other duties as assigned; job duties may vary depending on business needs.
Qualifications / Competencies
- Knowledge of brand name and generic medications.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Ability to work at a moderate speed.
- Ability to work during inclement weather.
- Reliable.
- Detail‑focused with analytical problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to perform light lifting.
- Must be able to work various shifts, including overnight.
Education and/or Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Pharmacy technician license or certification required by state regulations.
- Previous pharmacy experience preferred (one or more years of long‑term care experience preferred).
Physical Demands
- May sit or stand seven to ten hours per day.
- The employee occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, bend, walk.
- May be necessary to work extended hours as needed.
- May lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
