Pharmacy Benefits Specialist
Location:Hybrid, Portland, ME (majority WFH)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM
Pay: $25.33–$31.29/hour, depending on experience
Assignment: Temporary, approximately 12–16 weeks
A healthcare organization is seeking a detail-oriented Pharmacy Benefits Specialist to support pharmacy benefit operations and related administrative processes. This is a great opportunity for someone with experience in pharmacy, healthcare benefits, health insurance, prior authorizations, or healthcare administration who enjoys researching issues, working with data, and collaborating with multiple internal and external partners.
Responsibilities include:
- Support day-to-day pharmacy benefit administration and operations
- Research and resolve pharmacy and benefit-related questions and issues
- Assist with prior authorization processes and related documentation
- Work with internal teams and external partners, including Pharmacy Benefit Managers
- Review data and reports to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies
- Support system testing, updates, and other pharmacy program initiatives
- Maintain accurate documentation and handle confidential information appropriately
- Prioritize multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- 2+ years of administrative, business, healthcare, pharmacy, or related experience
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
- Comfortable navigating multiple systems and working with data and reports
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information professionally
Preferred experience includes:
- Pharmacy Technician or pharmacy operations experience
- Healthcare benefits, health insurance, or managed care experience
- Pharmacy benefit or PBM experience
- Pharmacy billing or third-party billing knowledge
- Familiarity with medical terminology and generic/brand-name medications
- Medicare Part D, TRICARE, USFHP, or other government health plan experience
- Experience with regulatory, audit, or quality programs
