Job description

Texas Oncology is looking for a Pharmacy / Admixture Technician to join our team! This position will support the Dallas Sammons location.

This position will be either a level 1, 2, or Sr based on candidate experience.

What does the Pharmacy / Admixture Tech do?

Under the supervision of a physician or registered pharmacist, the Admixture Tech performs technical, non-judgmental tasks such as medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control in a clinic admixture room or licensed pharmacy. Tasks are verified by a registered nurse or pharmacist. The role supports adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. State laws may regulate that only licensed individuals perform compounding or mixing responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with medication order preparation by compounding or admixing medications under supervision.
  • Verify all orders for completeness, patient information, and physician authorization.
  • Admix drugs as ordered, adhering to guidelines and safety protocols.
  • Calculate dosages accurately, converting units as needed.
  • Maintain controlled substance records per regulations.
  • Dispose of materials properly, following guidelines and laws.
  • Clean equipment regularly, check for outdates, and perform quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain temperature logs and documentation for protocols and patient assistance drugs.
  • Manage inventory, including documentation of quantities, lot numbers, and expiration dates.
  • Support medication use activities, including labeling, documentation, data entry, and order supplies.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of the admixture area and pharmacy department in compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

Level 1

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry-level to three years of pharmacy experience.

Level 2 (additional requirements)

  • 3-5 years of pharmacy experience with IV skills.
  • IV certification preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician or State Pharmacy Board certification recommended.

Level Sr (additional requirements)

  • 5-7 years of pharmacy experience with IV skills.
  • Oncology background or extensive IV preparation experience preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited program recommended.

Physical Demands:
