Job summary

The US Oncology Network in Minnesota is hiring a Pharmacy Technician to work under physician supervision in the clinic admixture room, performing medication preparation, distribution, record keeping and inventory control.

The role requires a high school diploma, 2–3 years pharmacy tech or related healthcare experience, knowledge of pharmaceuticals and calculations, and IV/chemotherapy prep experience is a plus. A $2,500 signing bonus is offered.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of pharmacy technician or other related health care experience.
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy calculations, and related medical technology.
• Graduation from VoTech Pharmacy Technician Program desired but not required.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician Certificate or State Pharmacy Board Preferred (If not certified at hiring, certification with the first year of employment will be required)
• Intravenous drug and Chemotherapy compounding experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
• Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
• Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
• Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
• Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records. Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
• Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
• Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
• Provide support with inventory control of medications. Prepares labels. Files and prepares billing. Basic data entry into department automation. Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
• Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.
