Job summary

Minnesota Oncology in Minnesota seeks a Pharmacy Technician to support medication preparation in the clinic admixture room. You’ll work under physician supervision to ensure accurate compounding, labeling, and documentation, while maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards.

Requirements include 2–3 years in a pharmacy setting, knowledge of calculations, and IV/chemo experience preferred. A state PT license or certification is encouraged; generous benefits and a $2,500 hiring bonus

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of pharmacy technician or related health care experience.
  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy calculations, and related medical technology.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing under supervision of a physician.
  • Checks all orders for completeness and verifies patient information and physician authorization.
  • Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician per guidelines and OSHA.
  • Calculates correct dosage volumes and unit conversions.
  • Assists in counting controlled substances weekly and maintains records.
  • Maintains temperature logs and documentation for protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  • Maintains lot numbers and inventory controls for medications.
  • Prepares labels and assists with billing and data entry.
  • Assist cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and pharmacy to improve sanitation.

Responsibilities

SCOPE:

Under direct supervision of a physician working within a clinic admixture room, performs the technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping and inventory control. Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or a registered pharmacist. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
  • Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
  • Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
  • Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records. Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
  • Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
  • Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
  • Provide support with inventory control of medications. Prepares labels. Files and prepares billing. Basic data entry into department automation. Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
  • Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.

SALARY LEVEL:

$25.50-$33.00

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of pharmacy technician or other related health care experience
  • Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy calculations, and related medical technology
  • Graduation from VoTech Pharmacy Technician Program desired but not required
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician Certificate or State Pharmacy Board Preferred (If not certified at hiring, certification with the first year of employment will be required)
  • Intravenous drug and Chemotherapy compounding experience preferred, but not required
