Job summary

Minnesota Oncology is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to support medication preparation, distribution, record keeping, and inventory control in the clinic admixture area under physician supervision. You will verify orders, calculate dosages, assist with IV drugs and chemotherapy prep, maintain temperature and protocol logs, and help with billing and supplies.

• Minimum of 2-3 years of pharmacy technician or related health care experience.
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy calculations, and related medical technology.
• Graduation from VoTech Pharmacy Technician Program desired but not required.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician Certificate or State Pharmacy Board Preferred (If not certified at hiring, certification with the first year of employment will be required).
• Intravenous drug and Chemotherapy compounding experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Admix drugs as ordered in an accurate and timely manner per guidelines.
• Calculate dosage volumes and convert between metric and apothecary.
• Assist in counting controlled drugs and maintain records.

• Maintain temperature logs and logs for protocol and patient assistance drugs.
• Maintain medication lot numbers and related documentation.
• Support inventory control and ordering of medications and supplies.
• Assist with cleaning and maintenance of admix area and pharmacy to improve sanitation.

Responsibilities

SCOPE:

Under direct supervision of a physician working within a clinic admixture room, performs the technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping and inventory control. Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or a registered pharmacist. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
• Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
• Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
• Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
• Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records. Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
• Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
• Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
• Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
• Provide support with inventory control of medications. Prepares labels. Files and prepares billing. Basic data entry into department automation. Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
• Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.

SALARY LEVEL:

$24.50-$31.00
