Job summary

Minnesota Oncology is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join the Waconia clinic admixture team. You will assist in medication preparation, inventory control, and billing under supervision of a physician, following OSHA guidelines and US Oncology compliance.

The role requires a HS diploma and 2–3 years of pharmacy-related experience; IV/chemo compounding experience is a plus. A $2,500 hiring bonus is offered along with a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• 2-3 years of pharmacy technician or health care experience.
• Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, pharmacy calculations, and related medical technology.
• VoTech Pharmacy Technician Program desired but not required.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician Certificate or State Pharmacy Board preferred (if not certified at hiring, certification within first year).
• IV drug and chemotherapy compounding experience preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assists with preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing under supervision of a physician.
• Checks all orders for completeness; verifies patient information and physician authorization.
• Admixes drugs as ordered; prepares drugs within OSHA guidelines and department guidelines.
• Calculates correct dosage volumes; converts between metric and apothecary equivalents.

• Maintains temperature logs and logs for all protocol medications and patient assistance drugs.

Responsibilities

SCOPE:

Under direct supervision of a physician working within a clinic admixture room, performs the technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping and inventory control. Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse or a registered pharmacist. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists with the preparation of medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision of a physician.
• Checks all orders for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
• Under direct supervision, admixes drugs as ordered by physician in an accurate and timely manner as per department guidelines, and preparing all drugs within OSHA guidelines and interoffice guidelines.
• Calculates correct dosage volumes, converting between metric and apothecary equivalents.
• Assists in counting controlled drugs weekly and maintain records. Properly disposes all materials used when mixing chemo or non-chemo IVs.
• Assists in cleaning hoods daily checking drugs monthly for outdates and other quality assurance activities as assigned.
• Assists in keeping accurate temperature logs, accurate logs on all protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
• Maintains proper control documentation of medications including lot numbers.
• Provide support with inventory control of medications. Prepares labels. Files and prepares billing. Basic data entry into department automation. Ordering of medication and supplies as directed.
• Assist with required cleaning and maintenance of the admix area and the pharmacy department in general to minimize particle counts and improve overall sanitation.

SALARY LEVEL:

$25.50-$33.00

• Graduation from VoTech Pharmacy Technician Program desired but not required
• Certified Pharmacy Technician Certificate or State Pharmacy Board Preferred (If not certified at hiring, certification with the first year of employment will be required)
• Intravenous drug and Chemotherapy compounding experience preferred, but not required
