Job summary

UNC Health in Chapel Hill area is seeking a PAP Counselor Technician to support medication access, utilization and optimization. This role has a high level of autonomy working with patients, prescribers, payers and other members of the health care team.

The position is onsite at Hillsborough Hospital and offers a Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program of $5000 paid over two years.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent.
• Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy is required unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
• CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA required unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
• Two years pharmacy technician experience required or three years in a related field.
• Excellent communication, organization and time-management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently; cross-functional teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Determine eligibility for patients to enter the Prescription Assistance Program (PAP).
• Assist patients in navigating PAP application process, including gathering missing documents and submitting forms.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable regulations and external support services.
• Identify opportunities for intervention and seek solutions to customer concerns.
• Document and track patient eligibility and program enrollment in EHR and vendor systems.
• Communicate findings to patient, provider and pharmacies per standards.

Summary: The PAP Counselor Technician provides support related to medication access, utilization and optimization. The technician has a high level of autonomy working directly with patients, prescribers, payers and other members of the healthcare team. The position identifies and initiates process development and improvement activities with emphasis on providing high quality patient care and customer service.

This position is ONSITE at the Hillsborough Hospital.

This position qualifies for our Pharmacy Technician Incentive Program, which includes $5000 in commitment incentives spread over a two-year period. Payment is made after six months, one year, and two years of employment.

Responsibilities

• Determine eligibility for patients to enter the Prescription Assistance Program (PAP). Review patient documents and records in order to verify if established criteria and thresholds have been met.
• Assist patients in navigating the PAP application process including obtaining missing documentation, submitting standard forms, and explaining rules of the program.
• Maintain current knowledge of service line applicable regulations and external support services
• Proactively identify and analyze opportunities for intervention and seek solutions to customer concerns encountered both inside and outside of the department
• Utilize internally developed systems, the electronic health record (EPIC) and commercial vendor software to document and track patient eligibility, prescriptions, patient communications and program enrollment
• Document and communicate findings to the patient, provider and pharmacies per internal operational standards in a timely and professional manner
• Provide support to develop and utilize processes that improve operational workflow to positively impact patient care and optimize clinical processes.
• Respond to and resolve pharmacy-related inquiries from members, clients, providers, or pharmacies related to medications. Appropriately triage inquiries to relevant team members when additional expertise is required.
• Assist in training for new employees and pharmacy learners
• Provide project support and complete other projects/initiatives as assigned.

Education Requirements

• HS diploma or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
• CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless enrolled in a PharmD program.
• Two years to obtain CPhT from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA if hired as a non -technician with qualified years of experience.

Professional Experience Requirements

• Two years of pharmacy technician experience required or three years of relevant experience in a related field.
