Job summary

Mercor is seeking talented pharmacology and drug discovery SMEs to help train and evaluate AI models for drug discovery. This part-time role supports building foundational AI models with focus on pharmacology, DMPK/ADME, and toxicology.

You'll guide experiments, design benchmarks, and assess model outputs while collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams. Flexible 20 hours per week through Cincinnatus LLC, with placement at a leading AI lab.

Qualifications

• PhD in pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences, toxicology, DMPK, biochemistry or related discipline, or equivalent research experience.
• 3+ years of experience in early-to-mid stage drug discovery, pharmacology, DMPK/ADME or toxicology.
• Hands-on experience analyzing experimental drug discovery data and guiding compound decisions.
• Comfortable using PK/PD or data analysis software and scientific AI tools (no coding required).
• Ability to engage reliably for at least 20 hours/week during weekdays.
• Strong written communication and ability to explain complex technical decisions clearly.
• Nice to have: PK/PD or ADME modeling, designing benchmark tasks, or evaluating scientific AI models.

Responsibilities

• Guide research and engineering teams to close knowledge gaps and improve AI model performance in pharmacology, ADME/Tox, and PK/PD.
• Design difficult, non-searchable drug discovery tasks and write solutions for interpretation of assay readouts and compound liabilities.
• Evaluate AI model outputs and step-by-step reasoning, diagnosing errors and providing clear feedback.
• Develop specifications, grading rubrics and verification processes for drug discovery data produced by external teams.
• Advise on assay design and quality control, and validate biological relevance of model outputs.
• Collaborate with other subject matter experts to ensure data quality and consistency.
