Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of retail and pharmacy operations within the area assigned, including inventory, workflow and security.
  • Maintain inventory levels and adjust PAR levels with technicians using the ordering system.
  • Perpetual inventory of controlled substances and weekly verification.
  • Dispense medications, prepare compounds per state law and hospital policy.
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and students; ensure compliance with state/federal rules.
  • Administer immunizations and collaborate with clinical staff for timely medications.
  • Participate in QA/QI efforts and report dispensing incidents as required.

Summary:

SCHEDULE: Varying shifts that can include weekends.

Responsible for all aspects of retail and pharmacy operations within area assigned including inventory, workflow and security with an emphasis on maintaining optimal patient experience.

Will maintain inventory levels as needed to service customers using the distributors ordering system. Will use inventory reports to work with technicians to adjust PAR levels of drugs on hand. Will maintain a perpetual inventory of all controlled substances that are verified weekly. Will comply with security procedures to reduce loss potential by setting the alarm and securing all controlled substances.

Ability to operate computer to input and retrieve information. Obtain information to fill out new prescriptions and refills by phone as needed. Fill prescriptions and prepare compounds in accordance with state law and hospital policy. Oversee the stocking of the daily order and tracking of all controlled substances. Report any dispensing incidents through the event reporting system. Supervise pharmacy technicians and students. Ensure compliance with all Class A state pharmacy rules, federal and hospital rules, specialty pharmacy accreditation(s), and 340B program management operations.

Patient Experience: Openly communicate with customers and patients while protecting their health information and providing counseling as needed. This will include working with pharmacists and clinical staff from other areas in the hospital to facilitate timely medications dispensation. Facilitate receipt of patient assistance program benefits to appropriate patients and families. Administer immunizations pursuant to hospital protocols.

Process Improvement: Work with pharmacists, technicians, and other healthcare providers to enhance workflow that improves patient care. Participate in the collection of data as needed for QI/QA efforts. Maintain solution-oriented focus to problem solving to foster a positive working environment.

Education:
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm.D

  • Degree from an ACPE accredited school required

Certification/Licensure:
  • Texas Pharmacist License or eligible for Texas Licensure as a registered pharmacist

  • Pharmacist and pharmacy preceptor licensure must be obtained within 90 days of eligibility

  • ACPE Immunization Certification
