Qualifications

Job description

General Summary of Position

We are recruiting an experienced outpatient / community Pharmacist to join our MedStar Pharmacy DC locations on a PRN basis. Shifts needing coverage are 10:30am-7:15pm Monday - Friday and 8am - 4pm Saturdays. Dual-licensed Pharmacist in both DC and MD is a plus.

The Pharmacist evaluates prescribed drugs for appropriateness of dose, therapeutic efficacy, allergies, drug interactions, and contraindications; processes prescriptions through insurance, handles DUR rejects, pre-authorizations, etc.; performs final checks on all prescriptions to ensure accuracy in input, labeling, and dispensing; and provides counseling and drug information to patients and physicians. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Contribute to the achievement of department goals, adhere to policies, procedures, quality, and safety standards, and comply with regulations.
2. Act as pharmacist in charge in the absence of the manager by directing workflow, ensuring responsibilities are completed, resolving issues, and overseeing pharmacy operations.
3. Perform final checks on prescriptions for accuracy, maintain refill and narcotic logs, and manage prescription files.
4. Process prescriptions, evaluate for appropriateness, handle DURs, rejects, preauthorizations, and communicate with third-party payors.
5. Provide clinical guidance to physicians and health professionals, follow up on refill requests, and notify physicians of prescriptions requiring pre-authorizations.
6. Offer patient counseling as appropriate.
7. Participate in meetings, committees, community outreach, and quality improvement teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

• Licensed as a pharmacist in the District of Columbia required.

Experience

• 1-2 years pharmacy experience, preferably in retail, required.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current DC Pharmacist license, including Immunization/Vaccination Certification, registered with the district's board of pharmacy, required.
• CPR certification (BLS and NRP) from AHA or Red Cross, required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills preferred.

This position has a hiring range of $100,588 - $190,340.
