Job Title: Pharmacy Grad Intern

Location: Retail Pharmacy, MTM, LTC, etc.

Reports To: Operations Manager and Pharmacist in Charge

Position Purpose:

The Pharmacy Intern plays a crucial role in the success of a pharmacy. The primary duty of the intern is to process and fill prescriptions. Additional responsibilities include preparing the pharmacy for business by turning on equipment such as computers, printers, and scales, greeting customers, measuring and labeling medication, assisting with payments, controlling inventory, stocking shelves, and entering data into a computerized system. The intern will work directly with a dispensing pharmacist and the Operations Manager to provide excellent customer service.

Responsibilities:

1. Greet customers in person or by phone, respond to their questions, or refer them to the pharmacist as appropriate.
2. Process prescriptions electronically, ensuring all information is complete and accurate.
3. Resolve issues when they arise, such as a rejected insurance claim.
4. Receive and review prescriptions. Read medication orders, prepare labels, select the appropriate medication, measure dosages, and fill prescriptions. Present prescriptions to the pharmacist for final verification.
5. Perform monthly inventory counts and assist with maintaining adequate supplies of medications. Ensure orders are correct and match the invoice. When new medications arrive, sort, stock, and label them. Check for expired medications. Operate the cash register.
6. Maintain records by recording and filing physicians' orders and prescriptions. Follow operational policies and procedures, including opening and closing procedures.
7. Comply with safety measures by adhering to infection‑control procedures.
8. Assist the pharmacist with patients' vaccinations.
9. Comply with quality standards by following set processes, policies, and privacy regulations. Ensure third‑party logistics/carrier processes are followed.
10. Counsel patients under the pharmacist's supervision.
11. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager and/or the pharmacist.

Requirements:

1. Two or more years of customer service experience in a pharmacy, retail, or medical environment. Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.
2. Ability to work in a fast‑paced setting with strong attention to detail.
3. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
4. Demonstrable dependability and a customer‑focused attitude.
5. Basic proficiency in computer skills and the ability to learn new software programs.
6. Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds.
