Job summary

JobRx, Inc. seeks a Pharmacy Intern to assist in pharmacy tasks under supervision of a licensed pharmacist while enrolled in an accredited program.

Responsibilities include patient education on medication management, processing physician orders, compounding sterile preparations, dispensing medications via Pyxis, and maintaining drug storage areas and inventories. Excellence in AIDET and safety standards is expected.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited Pharmacy program and eligible for Pharmacy Intern or Pharm Tech licensure.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in patient education related to medication management under supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Assists the pharmacist in processing physician orders to print medication/sterile product labels and reports.
  • Documents compounding of sterile preparations for single or multiple patients.
  • Ensures medications/sterile products are prepared, checked by a pharmacist, and delivered on time.
  • Assists with dispensing medications and controlled drugs to automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis) ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Supports supervision and management of drug storage areas for cleanliness and organization.
  • Performs monthly inspections for expired medications and documents results.
  • Records medication storage refrigerator temperatures and notifies variances.
  • Assists with physical inventory counts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of AIDET with each patient interaction.
  • Maintains regular attendance to ensure patient care quality.
  • Adheres to hospital safety and quality standards and participates in required training.

Job description

The Pharmacy Intern's primary role is to perform pharmacy-related tasks under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, while enrolled in an accredited Pharmacy program.

Essential Functions / Job Duties
  1. Assists in the delivery of patient education as it relates to medication management
  2. Assists the Pharmacist in the prompt and accurate processing of physician's orders to facilitate printing of medication/sterile products labels and reports as needed for patient care.
  3. Performs proper documentation of compounding of sterile preparations batched for single or multiple patient usage.
  4. Ensures medications/sterile products are prepared as scheduled, checked by a pharmacist and delivered accurately on a timely basis.
  5. Assists with the dispensing of medications and controlled drugs to automated dispensing systems (i.e. Pyxis). Ensures that medication pick, refill and delivery through automated dispensing systems is done accurately, timely and according to established schedules and guidelines. Automated dispensing systems include med stations and anesthesia carts located throughout patient care, surgical and procedures areas.
  6. Assists with the supervision and management of drug storage areas for cleanliness, security and organization.
  7. Completes and documents monthly inspections for expired medications
  8. Documents all drug storage refrigerator temperatures and communicates variances
  9. Assists with physical inventory counts as required
  10. Performs other duties as assigned
  11. Demonstrates working knowledge of AIDET, utilizing with each patient interaction
  12. Regular, reliable attendance is required to ensure the highest level of patient care
  13. Follows hospital safety and quality standards and expectations, as it pertains to job performance and patient care
  14. Attends all required training and education

Qualifications
  • (PHARM-Intern) Pharmacist - Intern, or (Pharm Tech) Pharmacy Technician License, or Bachelor’s Degree, or Master’s Degree
