The Infusion Pharmacist is responsible for providing clinical pharmacy services through the evaluation of physician orders, sterile compounding, and the safe and efficient dispensing of medications, supplies, and administration equipment. This role serves as a clinical resource to patients, physicians, nurses, referral sources, and pharmacy staff while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and company policies. The Infusion Pharmacist may also supervise pharmacy support personnel and participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
Evaluate and verify physician orders and patient medication profilesCompound sterile preparations using aseptic techniqueEnsure compliance with USP standards for sterile compoundingReview and dispense medications, supplies, and administration equipmentMonitor medication appropriateness, stability, and compatibilityServe as a clinical resource for physicians, nurses, referral sources, and patientsProvide consultation regarding medication administration, side effects, and drug interactionsCoordinate patient care with nursing agencies and clinical staffSupervise pharmacy support personnel in compounding, packaging, and labeling activitiesParticipate in quality control and performance improvement initiativesAssist with pharmacy staff orientation and preceptorship activitiesMaintain required pharmacy and patient care documentationSupport regulatory compliance and accreditation standardsParticipate in on-call coverage as assigned
Bachelor's degree requiredPharmD or Master's degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy requiredActive Pharmacist license in good standing with the California Board of PharmacyStrong knowledge of sterile compounding practices and USP Knowledge of laminar airflow principles, drug stability, and drug incompatibilitiesExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsStrong attention to detail and accuracyAbility to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilitiesBasic computer proficiency and Microsoft Office experience
