Primary Role
Preparing and dispensing appropriate pharmaceuticals to patients, leading a team of pharmacy technicians, and managing the overall day‑to‑day pharmacy responsibilities. The role involves high levels of responsibility and requires extensive knowledge.
Essential Job Functions
- Review and execute provider prescriptions, checking their appropriateness and legality.
- Organize the pharmacy efficiently to facilitate product identification.
- Maintain full control over medication inventory, stocking, labeling, and monitoring condition to prevent expiration or deterioration.
- Listen carefully to customers to interpret their needs and issues and offer information and advice.
- Prepare medicines when appropriate, using correct dosages and materials for each patient.
- Maintain patient profiles and the history of all activities regarding dispensed medications.
- Stay abreast of and comply with HIPAA and Fraud, Waste, and Abuse regulations.
- Comply with all applicable legal rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Ensure the pharmacy and its employees are compliant with Federal, State, and Local laws.
- Ensure employees are aware of and compliant with local facility policies.
- Direct the daily work of pharmacy technicians, provide input into performance evaluations, and advise senior management of any behavioral or performance issues.
- Manage pharmacy technicians’ schedules, including advising senior management of leave requests or medical accommodations.
Required Education & Skills
- PharmD required.
- Current license to practice (PharmD) in Illinois.
- Excellent oral and written skills.
Experience
- Previous experience working within a retail pharmacy environment.
- Proficiency in using patient management systems in pharmacy.
- Minimum 3‑5 years of retail pharmacy manager experience.
Physical Requirements
- Standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Fine motor skills.
