Job Summary

Provides patient care through direct operational and/or clinical services, ensuring the safe and appropriate use of medications. Responsibilities include drug information provision, therapy monitoring, and supervising pharmacy services in accordance with departmental policies and legal regulations. Regular communication with healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers is essential. The role may involve participation in departmental committees and educational activities. The balance of operational and clinical duties depends on staffing and workload.

Essential Functions

• Accurately process medication orders, dispense drugs, and provide patient care, including education and management across diverse patient populations.
• Perform pharmacist duties such as reviewing prescriptions, providing medication education, managing care plans, and collaborating with healthcare providers.
• Respond promptly to drug information requests.
• Supervise pharmacy support staff, verify tasks, and potentially serve as lead or charge pharmacist.
• Conduct lab reviews, provide clinical consultations, and document activities.
• Act as liaison between pharmacy and patient care areas, resolving distribution issues and monitoring drug storage.
• Train pharmacy technicians, students, and new staff.
• Represent the department in integrating pharmaceutical care throughout patient treatment.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

• This role reports to a supervisor or manager; it does not have management responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an ACPE-accredited college of Pharmacy; PharmD preferred.
• No prior experience required.

In Lieu Of

• For those without an active SC Pharmacist license, candidates may be recent graduates with a SC intern certificate or those completing reciprocity requirements pending licensure.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

• Licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Pharmacist within 4 months in the state of employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong knowledge of medical and pharmacy terminology, good mathematical, computer, and aseptic skills.
• Understanding of State BOP/DHEC/DEA regulations.
• Ability to work effectively under urgent or stressful conditions.
