Job Overview
The Pharmacist is responsible for the daily operational duties related to dispensing prescription medications in a long-term/post-acute care pharmacy, adhering to quality, customer service standards, policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of all labels and orders, including medication packaging, labeling, emergency drug kits, and IV medications.
- Maintain resident medical and medication records, including clinical and laboratory data.
- Assist with the ordering, handling, receipt, documentation, and storage of controlled substances, including maintaining a perpetual inventory for Schedule II drugs.
- Collaborate with pharmacy technicians to reconcile controlled substances inventory for compliance.
- Respond to drug-related questions and provide clinical expertise to staff and patients.
- Document communication with healthcare providers and patients in medical records.
- Supervise the preparation of sterile IV drug products.
- Provide coverage during evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Follow all applicable regulations, including HIPAA.
- Perform other duties as assigned, depending on business needs.
- Manage workflow and ensure appropriate outcomes.
- Maintain flexible scheduling.
Qualifications
- Current Pharmacist license in good standing in the state of practice.
- Management experience preferred.
- Bachelor's or Doctorate in Pharmacy from an accredited school.
- Accurate and efficient dispensing skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience with FrameworkLTC, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Minimum two years recent experience in an acute-care setting or one year as a production pharmacist (preferred but not required).
- Excellent communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.
- Strong organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
- Maturity in judgment, working under supervision of the Pharmacy Manager.
Additional Policies
- Paid holidays (6 days/year), 5 sick days, up to 10 PTO days with rollover and bonuses, and PTO cash-out options.
- Schedules may vary due to 24/7 pharmacy operations.
Physical Demands
May sit or stand for 7-10 hours, occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, crawl. May lift/move up to 50 pounds. Work environment may vary.
