Job Objectives

Provides pharmacy consulting services with empathy to patients regarding the effective usage of medications and awareness of drug interactions. Offers preventive and clinical healthcare services, including immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services. Responsible for ensuring the proper compounding, dispensation, review, and verification of prescribed medications within regulatory guidelines, company policies, and procedures. Supports the efficient workflow of the pharmacy and assists the pharmacy manager in identifying ways to optimize pharmacy financials, inventory management, and enhance patient experience.

Job Responsibilities/Tasks
Patient Experience
  • Engages patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services. Resolves patient issues promptly and answers questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and joyful experience, including interpersonal habits that show care (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy) and Walgreens service traits (e.g., demonstrating curiosity to identify needs and proactively helping, servicing until satisfied, championing empathy and inclusivity).
  • Connects with patients by anticipating needs and proactively offering services. Supports efforts to enhance patient experience by increasing awareness of healthcare services offered through Walgreens (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, immunizations, diagnostic testing, and patient outcomes services), thereby promoting the shift from transactional to interpersonal pharmacy roles.
  • Participates in community events reflecting the communities served, as requested by Store Manager, Healthcare Supervisor, District Manager, or Pharmacy Manager.
Operations
  • Counsels patients on medication usage, side effects, interactions, contraindications, privacy, generics, cost-effective medicines, OTC products, and refers to medical providers as needed to ensure correct medication use and satisfaction.
  • Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management.
  • Reviews, interprets, and accurately dispenses prescribed medications, managing workload effectively.
  • Ensures pharmacy operations comply with regulations, company policies, and standards. Assists in establishing procedures to promote efficient workflow, including role assignments, activity coordination, and team suggestions. Responsible for opening, closing, and shift change duties.
  • Ensures use of Good Faith Dispensing policies in accordance with state and federal controlled substance laws when filling prescriptions. Responsible for ensuring all elements of Good Faith are present during dispensing.
  • Maintains current knowledge of pharmacy IT systems related to workflow, prescription fulfillment, billing, documentation, training, inventory, and POS to support staff and patients. Seeks improvements to boost productivity.
  • Ensures accurate processing of insurance claims, resolves patient issues, prevents rejections, follows up with insurers and providers, and participates in third-party audits.
  • Communicates with medical providers to clarify prescriptions, dosages, refills, interactions, allergies, and to suggest alternatives, answering questions as needed.
  • Performs clinical and wellness services such as immunizations, diagnostic testing, disease management, and other healthcare services.
  • Assists pharmacy manager in analyzing performance data related to finances, customer service, and inventory, and implements related procedures.
  • Builds relationships with local healthcare providers and participates in community outreach to promote pharmacy services and growth.
  • Supports virtual patient registration, exception resolution, and conducts virtual product reviews following company protocols.
People & Performance Management
  • Assists in staff hiring and training, coaching, providing feedback, and fostering team development under the pharmacy manager’s guidance.
  • Promotes teamwork, motivates staff, establishes expectations, monitors progress, and encourages a shared vision.
Training & Personal Development
  • Maintains current licenses, credentials, and certifications required by law to provide clinical services.
  • Stays updated on pharmacy and healthcare developments through journals, publications, and communications. Pursues best practices to improve performance.
  • Obtains necessary certifications and training, including learning modules, as required.
  • Seeks professional growth by monitoring performance, requesting feedback, and leveraging mentorship opportunities.
Communications
  • Supports pharmacy and store management by communicating relevant health and wellness strategies to staff.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in Pharmacy or Pharmacist Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current pharmacist licensure in the state(s) within the district.
  • Experience in prescription dispensing, demonstrating knowledge of applicable laws.
  • Certified Immunizer or willingness to become one within 90 days of hire.
