Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Review, verify, accept, and dispense prescription medications accurately and safely.
  • Provide medication counseling to patients regarding dosage, interactions, side effects, and storage.
  • Respond to after-hours prescription and dispensing needs while working independently.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and pharmacy documentation.
  • Supervise and direct pharmacy staff as applicable.
  • Follow all pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

PRN / On-Call Pharmacist – Wisconsin

PharmacistSchedule: As Needed / PRN Weekend & PTO Coverage Required Wisconsin Pharmacist License Required We are seeking a Licensed Pharmacist in Wisconsin to provide PRN weekend, PTO, and after-hours pharmacy coverage. This position is well suited for an experienced pharmacist who is comfortable working independently, handling after-hours prescription needs, and providing occasional weekend coverage. Experience with non-sterile compounding and on-call/overnight pharmacy services is strongly preferred.

Pharmacist Schedule & Coverage

This is an as-needed PRN position with a combination of scheduled weekend coverage and evening/overnight on-call responsibilities.

  • Pharmacist Weekend Scheduled Coverage: Approximately 2 scheduled weekend shifts per month on a 4-week rotation
  • Weekend hours: 12:00 PM–4:00 PM
  • Additional weekend and PTO coverage as needed
  • Pharmacist Weekday Coverage: Typical pharmacy hours: 10:00 AM–6:00 PM
  • Approximately 3–4 on-call evenings per week, based on scheduling needs
  • Pharmacist On-Call Hours: Weekdays: 6:00 PM–10:00 AM
  • Weekends: 4:00 PM–12:00 PM
Pharmacist On-Call Compensation
  • $75 per on-call shift
  • $75 per dispensing call/order
Pharmacist Responsibilities
  • Review, verify, accept, and dispense prescription medications accurately and safely.
  • Ensure medications are appropriate for the patient and comply with applicable laws, regulations, and pharmacy standards.
  • Monitor medication compliance, utilization, and potential overuse patterns.
  • Provide medication consultation to patients regarding dosage, administration, drug interactions, side effects, storage, and handling.
  • Answer patient questions and provide appropriate medication counseling.
  • Identify drug-related problems and communicate recommendations to physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy interns, technicians, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Compound medications for internal and external use according to established procedures.
  • Support preparation of sterile solutions when required and appropriately trained.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and pharmacy documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels of medications and pharmacy supplies.
  • Supervise and provide direction to pharmacy technicians, clerks, interns, and other pharmacy staff as applicable.
  • Provide patient education related to medications and medical devices.
  • Follow all pharmacy policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Respond appropriately to after-hours prescription and dispensing needs while working independently.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of on-call activities and dispensing decisions.
Pharmacist Qualifications
  • Active Wisconsin Pharmacist license required.
  • Pharmacy experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of prescription medications, drug interactions, dosing, and medication safety.
  • Strong communication and patient counseling skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable pharmacy regulations.
Pharmacist Preferred Experience
  • Non-sterile compounding experience preferred.
  • Previous on-call, overnight, PRN, or after-hours pharmacy experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience handling urgent prescription or dispensing needs outside normal pharmacy hours.
  • Experience working in LTC, specialty, home infusion, community, or other pharmacy environments where independent decision-making is required.
Ideal Candidate
  • This role is particularly well suited for a pharmacist who: Wants flexible PRN hours. Is comfortable providing evening/overnight on-call coverage. Has previous on-call pharmacy experience. Is comfortable making independent dispensing and clinical decisions. Has experience with non-sterile compounding. Can provide reliable weekend and PTO coverage. Maintains excellent communication with patients and healthcare providers. Active Wisconsin pharmacist licensure is required.
