Overview

LOCATION: Houghton Lake and Roscommon Pharmacy - Outpatient/ Retail Locations

This position screens physician orders to ensure the correct medications are given to individual patients that range in age from birth to 100+ years assuring that the most correct drug and dose is prescribed, dispensed, administered and properly monitored. Screens orders for proper drug/ dosage, drug interaction, adverse reactions, allergies, and contraindications. Researches and answers drug information questions and provides various clinical pharmacy services.

Responsibilities
  • 40%: Receives and reviews all prescriptions for correctness and appropriateness and dispenses the most appropriate medications for individual patients.
  • 30%: Responsible for the pharmacy workflow and leadership on the shift and communication. Follows up on problems during the course of the shift.
  • 30%: Supervises the preparation of prescriptions for dispensing.
Other duties and responsibilities
  • Provides and documents drug information to healthcare professionals and patients.
  • Assists in the maintenance of the 340(b) inventory by monitoring dispensing of prescriptions from main or 340(b) inventory.
  • Audits on an ongoing basis as directed by sites 340(b) policy.
  • Communicates areas of concern to supervisor. Involved in teaching of patients, students, or other healthcare professionals, i.e., discharge counseling, in services, and hands on teaching of students. Also involved in the training of new pharmacists and pharmacy interns and residents.
  • Assists in formulating new/revised pharmacy policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Certifications and Licensures
  • CSL PHARM - Controlled Substance (Required)
  • PHARM - Pharmacist (Required)
Required Education
  • Bachelors Degree
    • Comments: Completion of 6 year pharmacy degree is preferred.
Experience, Training and Skills
  • Basic knowledge of personal computer needed to enter prescription information.
  • Organizational skills needed to prioritize multiple tasks. Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understanding manner.

  • Completion of a 6 year Pharm. D. degree preferred. One (1) to three(3) years experience working in a hospital or retail setting preferred.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
  • Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
  • Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
  • Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
  • Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
  • Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, working dependently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
  • Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
  • Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
