Job summary

Cogent Scientific is seeking a Pharma Purification Chemist to purify organic samples using chromatography, steer LC-MS based fraction identification, and optimize purification strategies in a fast-paced lab.

The role emphasizes collaboration with synthetic chemists, strict safety, and maintaining an organized facility on a standard 8a-5p onsite shift. Relocation support may be offered, with emphasis on quality and excellence.

Qualifications

• BS in Chemistry or related field with 1–3 years of industry experience OR MS in Chemistry with 0–1 year of industry experience (preferably pharma).
• Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
• Strong problem-solving and ability to work across functions.

Responsibilities

• Purify organic samples using normal-phase and reversed-phase chromatography on milligram to multigram scale.
• Use LC-MS to identify products of interest and classify fractions for collection.
• Perform TLC plating and use rotavaps to concentrate fractions.
• Select purification techniques for unique mixtures.
• Communicate purification requirements with synthetic chemists.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and productive lab.

We currently have a role available for a Pharma Purification Chemist.

Job duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Purifying organic samples using normal-phase and reversed-phase chromatography on milligram to multigram scale.

• Utilizing LC-MS systems to identify products of interest and accurately classify fractions for collection.

• Using TLC plating as well as rotavaps to concentrate combined fractions

• Selecting an appropriate purification technique for unique mixtures.

• Communicating with synthetic chemists regarding purification requirements and issues.

• Helping maintain a safe, organized, and productive lab.

Job requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

• BS - Chemistry or related field with 1-3 years of industry experience OR MS-Chemistry with 0-1 year of industry experience (preferably pharma).

  • Ability to understand organic chemistry and functional groupings preferred.

• Familiarity with Agilent HPLCs and ChemStation software would be helpful.

• Observance of stringent safety protocols required.

• Ability to work well both independently and within a team.

• Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.

• Very strong problem-solving skills, a high level of learning agility, and the ability to work across functions.

• The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic and self-motivated, with the leadership and communication skills necessary to operate effectively in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment with flexibility and an adaptable approach to goal delivery.

This is an onsite, day shift position (approx. 8a-5p local time).
