Job summary

Georgia Department of Public Health in Pickens County (Jasper, GA) seeks an Environmental Health Specialist to evaluate facilities for compliance with Georgia Environmental Health Regulations across programs such as On-Site Sewage, Food Service, and Public Swimming Pools.

The role entails responding to public health emergencies, handling environmental health complaints, and performing field work with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) and one (1) year of experience at the lower level PH Envir Compl Specialist 1 (RCP120) or equivalent position.
• Note: Any agency-specified certification/training that may be experience.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, candidate evaluates facilities and properties for compliance with Georgia Environmental Health Regulations and performs work in the following program areas: On-Site Sewage Management Systems, Animal Bite Investigations, Food Service Establishments, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, Body Art Studios.
• Respond to public health emergencies as requested. All county public health employees are deemed essential in the event of an emergency and are required to participate in emergency functions.
• Responds to Environmental Health complaints.
• Must be able to drive a personal vehicle and/or company vehicle for work daily for assigned work.
• Position has physical demands—frequent standing, bending, squatting, walking, etc in various settings required. Includes year-round work both indoor and in outdoor climates. Occasional lifting of 25-40 lbs may be required.
• Position requires proficiency in data entry of assigned work on department issued equipment.
• Some overnight travel for training purposes may be required.
• This is a salary position and based on a 40-hour work week, M-F 8am to 5pm

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.
