Job summary

The Georgia Department of Public Health seeks an Environmental Health Specialist at the Pickens County Environmental Health Dept. in Jasper, GA.

You will evaluate facilities for compliance with health regulations across multiple programs and respond to public health emergencies while conducting inspections and ensuring data entry accuracy. Ideal candidates hold aBachelor’s degree with sciences coursework and possess the ability to travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university that includes 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences and one year of experience at the lower level PH Enviro Compliance Specialist 1 (RCP120) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate facilities and properties for compliance with Georgia Environmental Health Regulations in areas such as On-Site Sewage Management Systems, Animal Bite Investigations, Food Service Establishments, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, Body Art Studios.
  • Respond to public health emergencies as requested; all county public health employees are essential in emergencies.
  • Respond to Environmental Health complaints.
  • Must be able to drive a personal or company vehicle for work daily.
  • Position has physical demands: standing, bending, squatting, walking; year-round indoor/outdoor work; occasional lifting 25–40 lbs.
  • Proficiency in data entry on department issued equipment.
  • Some overnight travel for training may be required.
  • 40-hour work week, Monday–Friday, 8am–5pm.

Education

Bachelor’s degree with 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.)

As a PH Environmental Health Specialist within the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.

Location: Pickens County Environmental Health Dept.- Jasper, GA

  • Under supervision, candidate evaluates facilities and properties for compliance with Georgia Environmental Health Regulations and performs work in the following program areas: On-Site Sewage Management Systems, Animal Bite Investigations, Food Service Establishments, Public Swimming Pools, Tourist Accommodations, Body Art Studios.
  • Respond to public health emergencies as requested. All county public health employees are deemed essential in the event of an emergency and are required to participate in emergency functions.
  • Responds to Environmental Health complaints.
  • Must be able to drive a personal vehicle and/or company vehicle for work daily for assigned work.
  • Position has physical demands—frequent standing, bending, squatting, walking, etc in various settings required. Includes year-round work both indoor and in outdoor climates. Occasional lifting of 25-40 lbs may be required.
  • Position requires proficiency in data entry of assigned work on department issued equipment.
  • Some overnight travel for training purposes may be required.
  • This is a salary position and based on a 40-hour work week, M-F 8am to 5pm

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which includes the completion of 27 semester or 40 quarter hours in laboratory sciences (e.g., chemistry, biology, geology, physics, etc.) and one (1) year of experience at the lower level PH Envir Compl Specialist 1 (RCP120) or equivalent position.

Note: Any agency-specified certification/training that may be experience.

Preferred Qualifications (Please include qualification details with application/resume)
  • Completion of one or more Georgia DPH News EHS Training Courses
  • CFSM Certificate

Current State employees are subject to State Personnel Board rules regarding salary.

CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.

All positions require criminal history record check. Required education credentials, license, certification and/or registration must be submitted prior to employment in the position. Some positions require pre-employment drug testing in which the applicant who is offered the position will be required to successfully complete.
