Job summary

PGA Associate Golf Professional

Department: Golf Course

Reports To: Golf General Manager

Status: Exempt

General Summary:

Under the direction of the Golf General Manager, the PGA Associate Golf Professional assists with the daily operations of the golf course, including the Pro Shop, Outside Services, practice facility, and coordination with Cottonwood Lodge Restaurant operations. This position helps ensure exceptional guest service, supports golf programming and tournaments, supervises assigned staff, and promotes participation in the game of golf.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Follows and upholds all written Hyland Hills District and Golf course policies and procedures.
  2. Assists in managing daily golf course operations, including oversight of the Pro Shop, Outside Services, practice facility, and assigned staff. Maintains a thorough understanding of all golf operations.
  3. In the absence of the Golf General Manager, assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operation of assigned golf course activities and operational issues within the scope of delegated authority.
  4. Serves as Manager-on-Duty as assigned, resolving guest concerns, making operational decisions, and ensuring efficient daily operations.
  5. Assists in the administration of the Pro Shop by preparing daily cash deposits and reports.
  6. Responsible for opening and closing the Pro Shop as assigned. Supervises starting times and pace of play, assists with tournaments, and enforces golf course policies and procedures.
  7. Assists with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, training, supervision, discipline, and timekeeping of the Assistant Pro Shop Manager, and part-time staff assigned to the Pro Shop, Cart Barn, and Practice Facility.
  8. Assists in merchandising, Pro Shop purchases, displays, pricing and inventory.
  9. Assists with the planning, execution and supervision of the Junior Golf programs and group instruction.
  10. Assists in overseeing the maintenance, repair, cleaning, and rotation of the golf cart fleet.
  11. Maintains an effective and professional guest relations program.
  12. Assists the Golf General Manager and Assistant Golf Shop Manager in planning, organizing, promoting, and conducting golf programs, instructional clinics, tournaments, and special events.
  13. Assists in the liaison duties with the Men's, Ladies', and Seniors Golf Leagues.
  14. Assists in the management and execution of outside events and tournament play.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  1. Must be a registered PGA Associate (Level 1 or higher) and in good standing.
  2. Ability to provide excellent customer service in a high-paced environment with multiple distractions.
  3. Working knowledge of golf operations, pace of play, tee sheet management, and reservation systems.
  4. Knowledge of computers and POS; must also be able to process and balance daily receipts.
  5. Ability to coordinate and expedite golf activities such as tournaments.
  6. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a fast-paced customer service environment.
  7. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with golf course staff and guests.
  8. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with guests, leagues, vendors, and District staff.
  9. Must be able to perform multiple tasks with many interruptions.
  10. Must be able to work with little to no supervision and be enthusiastic, self-motivated and a team player.
  11. Must be able to demonstrate and train staff with excellent customer service skills.
Working Environment/Physical Activities:
  1. Must be able to perform a varied work schedule: nights, weekends, and holidays are required.
  2. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, outside weather may also be from extreme cold to extreme heat.
  3. May work near moving mechanical parts.
  4. The noise level in the work area is moderately quiet.
  5. Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds and occasionally assists with items weighing more than 100 pounds using proper equipment or team lifting techniques.
Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED required. One (1) year of experience in golf operations, golf retail, hospitality, recreation, or customer service required. Coursework in Recreation, Business, Physical Education, Finance, Accounting, or a related field may substitute for up to six (6) months of the required experience. Current registration as a PGA Associate (Level 1 or higher) in good standing is required. Previous supervisory experience is preferred. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
