Job summary

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension seeks an accomplished scientist to establish and grow the PFAS analytical program. You will direct a state-of-the-art laboratory and partner with producers, researchers, and policymakers to translate science into practical solutions for Maine’s agricultural and food systems.

Typical hiring range is $85,000 to $90,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. Strong public engagement and applied research skills are essential in this role.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in the relevant field by date of hire.
• Approx. 5 years of PFAS or related analysis experience.
• Experience with LC-MS/MS analysis, data interpretation and instrument maintenance.
• Experience managing annual lab budgets and service-center operations.
• Record of applied scientific research published in journals or popular press.
• Experience supervising technical staff and students.
• Experience writing and maintaining SOPs.
• Experience analyzing PFAS or related contaminants in environmental/agricultural matrices.

Responsibilities

• Establish and grow the PFAS analytical program.
• Lead and direct a state-of-the-art analytical laboratory.
• Collaborate with producers, researchers and policymakers to translate science into practice.
• Manage budgets, procure services, and ensure cost recovery and sustainability.
