Job summary

Texas Oncology seeks a PET/CT Technologist to support the El Paso Gateway Cancer Center. The role involves performing PET imaging, patient care, data management, and quality assurance, aligned with multiple experience levels (Level 1–Sr).

Responsibilities include scheduling support, safety compliance, and collaboration with the Medical Director to maintain imaging quality and accuracy of patient data.

Qualifications

  • Must have CNMT and/or ARRT(N) certification and state licensure where applicable.
  • Level 1–Sr based on experience; years of nuclear medicine experience required.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or Radiologic Technology with PET-CT certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic PET imaging including injections, protocol setup, positioning, reconstruction, filming, data transfers and archiving.
  • Assist in scheduling and front office tasks to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Ensure accuracy of patient demographics, report distribution and patient files.
  • Collect clinical data for follow-up and develop teaching/educational information.
  • Maintain safety and perform daily quality control to monitor scanner performance.
  • Report malfunctions and coordination with service providers as needed.
  • Manage patient data/films including printing, archiving, retrieval, and loaned films.
  • Understand contraindications with IV contrast and react appropriately.
  • Order necessary office, medical, printing and archiving media.

Opportunity

Texas Oncology is seeking a PET/CT Technologist to support the El Paso Gateway Cancer Center.

Role Overview

Position may be Level 1, 2, or Sr based on experience. The technologist will perform PET imaging procedures, collaborate with the Medical Director, maintain compliance, and ensure quality.

Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic PET imaging procedures including injection of radio-pharmaceutical and/or IV contrast, administration of oral contrast, protocol setup, patient positioning, reconstruction, and filming of images, network image transfers, and archiving of image data.
  • Assist in procedure scheduling and related front office functions to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Ensure accuracy of patient demographic information, report distribution and patient files.
  • Assist with collection of clinical data for patient follow-up and development of teaching and educational information.
  • Provide protection for patient and self in accordance with prescribed safety standards; conduct daily quality control measures to monitor scanner performance.
  • Report all malfunctions and/or need for service to the proper company or facility.
  • Responsible for patient data and films including printing, archiving, retrieval, network data transfers, tracking and logging of loaned films and requested outside films.
  • Understand contraindications associated with administration of IV contrast, recognize possible reactions and know the procedure to follow in case of a reaction.
  • Ordering of necessary office, medical, printing and archiving media.
Qualifications
Level 1
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or from an AMA accredited program, or Associate or Bachelor's degree in Radiologic Technology from an AMA accredited program and PET-CT certification.
  • Minimum three to five years experience in nuclear medicine and/or previous PET experience preferred.
  • General knowledge of patient scheduling and billing systems.
  • CNMT (Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist) and/or ARRT (N) certification and state licensure where applicable.
Level 2 (in addition to Level 1 requirements)
  • Minimum five years experience in nuclear medicine, including at least two years previous PET or nuclear medical experience.
Level Sr (in addition to Level 1 and 2 requirements)
  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiologic Technology, or from an AMA accredited program.
  • Minimum four years nuclear medical PET experience.

Physical Demands

Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of all department equipment. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Lifts and pushes patients in wheelchairs/stretchers weighing up to 300 pounds and places them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment. Requires ability to reach above shoulder height. Requires sitting/standing for extensive periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Work Environment

Regular exposure to direct contact with patients with potential for exposure to blood, toxic substances, ionizing radiation and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
