About this position

At Pet Meadow: Richmond we specialize in providing compassionate, professional, and reliable pet cremation services to veterinary hospitals and the families we serve. We are seeking a professional, compassionate individual to serve as a Crematory Operator — carefully and respectfully handling each pet in our care throughout the cremation process, while ensuring accuracy, dignity, and compassion every step of the way.

Responsibilities
  • Perform all aspects of the pet cremation process with accuracy, care, and respect
  • Receive and verify pets upon arrival, ensuring all identification and documentation are accurate
  • Maintain a precise chain of custody and detailed records for each pet
  • Operate crematory equipment safely and efficiently according to company protocols
  • Clean, maintain, and monitor crematory equipment to ensure proper operation
  • Prepare and package cremated remains for return to families and veterinary partners
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment
  • Adhere to all safety procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and company policies
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully with team members, veterinary clinic staff, and delivery drivers

Note: Must be able to lift 60+ pounds and consistently arrive to work as scheduled.

Required Skills & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organization
  • Comfortable working with deceased pets in an emotionally sensitive environment
  • Ability to consistently follow detailed procedures and documentation processes
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift up to 60 pounds, and perform repetitive tasks
  • Commitment to safety protocols and company standards
  • Hours: 4:00pm to 12:00am, Tuesday to Saturday (subject to change in the future)
Preferred Skills
  • Experience in a pet-related, funeral, or after-care industry
  • Mechanical aptitude or experience operating industrial equipment
  • Familiarity with cremation, mortuary, or veterinary environments

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed primarily in a crematory setting with exposure to moderate heat, noise, and odors
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift
  • Must be able to safely lift, carry, and move pets and supplies weighing up to 60 pounds
  • Requires wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, gowns, masks, and eye protection as needed
  • Regular use of crematory machinery and industrial equipment, following strict safety protocols
  • Requires focus, attention to detail, and comfort working in an emotionally sensitive environment involving deceased pets
  • May occasionally involve working near delivery drivers or veterinary staff bringing pets into care
