Job summary

Humane Society of Tampa Bay, Inc. is seeking a full-time Shelter Assistant to support animal care and adoptions in our Clearwater, FL location. You will help protect animal safety, manage shelter paperwork, and assist adopters during visits and follow-ups.

The role requires physical ability to lift 50 lbs+, weekend availability, and a strong customer-service mindset to engage with the public and staff effectively.

Qualifications

• Experience with animals preferred.
• Able to lift 50 lbs or more.
• Willingness to work weekends as required.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of animals and prevent unauthorized removal from kennels or cages.
• Maintain accurate shelter inventory reports to identify pet selections.
• Support offsite inventory at adoption centers using electronic communications.
• Ensure pet and adoption paperwork complies with partner policies (vaccination records, contracts, release forms, photos, biographies).
• Provide daily email updates related to any pet returning to the main shelter.
• Interview prospective adopters, answer questions, and provide education as needed.
