Job summary

County of Los Angeles’ Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures seeks applicants for an examination to fill vacancies related to pest inspection and regulatory duties. The process emphasizes education, experience, and desirable qualifications to identify qualified candidates.

Appointees will conduct inspections, collect specimens, maintain records, and support enforcement of agricultural standards, with shifts including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Completion of a natural science course in an accredited college.
• One year of experience in work involving the recognition of insect forms.
• A valid California Class "C" Driver License.

Responsibilities

• Assist in performing inspections at private and public properties by identifying and collecting a variety of pests.
• Assist in the inspection connected with enforcement of plant pest and agricultural standardization laws by identifying, collecting, and submitting samples of target pests and transporting them to laboratories.
• Assist in explaining government acts and regulations and the required standards to businesses and homeowners by providing routine policy, procedure, and regulatory information.
• Assist in trapping insects as part of an infestation detection program by identifying host plants for trap placement and assembling baiting traps.
• Counting and identifying pests in traps and generating inspection reports for documentation and accountability.
