County of Los Angeles’ Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures seeks applicants for an examination to fill vacancies related to pest inspection and regulatory duties. The process emphasizes education, experience, and desirable qualifications to identify qualified candidates.

Completion of a natural science course* in an accredited college.
One (1) year of experience in work involving the recognition of insect forms.
A valid California Class "C" Driver License**.

To receive credit for your education, include a legible copy of your official transcript from an accredited institution within 15 calendar days of filing your application. The document should show the number of units and the type of unit system used (e.g., semester, quarter) and be in English. If not in English, then translation is required. International degrees must be evaluated for equivalency to US standards and indicate the number of units and unit system. Applicants for positions that require driving must obtain and present a copy of their driver's license and driving record from the California State Department of Motor and Vehicles before final appointment. Applicants should not present a copy of their driving history until asked to do so by the hiring department. The County will make an individualized assessment of whether an applicant's driving history has a direct or adverse relationship with the specific duties of the job. License must not be currently suspended, restricted or revoked.
Additional courses applied in Desirable Qualifications cannot be in the same field as the course used to qualify under Option I.
This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
This examination will consist of an evaluation of education, experience, and the Desirable Qualifications based on the application information weighted 100%.
Candidates must meet the Requirements and receive a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination to be placed on the eligible Register. WITHHOLDS OR OUT-OF-CLASS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION MUST BE FULLY MET AT THE TIME OF FILING AND CLEARLY INDICATED ON THE APPLICATION.
Applications will be processed as they are received, and candidates will be added to the list accordingly. Individuals who successfully pass the assessment(s) are placed on a list based on their score group for a duration of twelve (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies as they occur.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
The list of successful candidates created from this examination will be used to fill TEMPORARY and PERMANENT vacancies throughout the County of Los Angeles in the Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures as they occur.
Appointees will be required to work any shift, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
