JOB DESCRIPTION: Personalized Learning Services Paraprofessional

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • The Personalized Learning Services Paraprofessional is responsible for providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision and instruction of students with significant disabilities; observing and documenting student progress; implementing plans for instruction; and assisting students by providing for special health care needs and monitoring student behavior.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs and developing children's daily living activities and behavioral skills.
  • Assists medically fragile or physically disabled students getting on and off the school bus for the purpose of maintaining students' personal safety.
  • Provides support for the physical needs of students with disabilities, including toileting, feeding, lifting, transferring, mobility assistance, and personal hygiene, in accordance with individual care plans and safety protocols.
  • Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
  • Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
  • Maintains a variety of materials (e.g. instructional materials, files, records, charts, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, and meeting mandated requirements.
  • Manages a variety of assigned activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive school environment.
  • Participates in the implementation of IEP goals for the purpose of meeting IEP goals and district benchmarks.
  • Provides instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g. academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of reinforcing instructional objectives; implementing IEP plans, and ensuring students success in school all under the supervision of assigned teacher.
  • Provides adapted classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
  • Provides feedback of observations for the purpose of informing teachers and administrators of student progress.
  • Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources for the purpose of solving problems, providing information, and directing to other sources.
  • Tutors students on assigned class work for the purpose of providing ongoing support in the completion of work assignments.
  • Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District.
  • Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model.

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

Mandatory:Minimum of high school education or GED.

Preferred:1+ years of experience working in a school is preferred.

Additional Work Conditions and Physical Abilities: Requires travel to multiple sites.
