Job summary

The YMCA of Southern Arizona is seeking a dedicated Personal Trainer to support members in adopting healthier habits and achieving personal wellness goals. You will build relationships, provide motivation, and guide safe exercise practices within our community-centered fitness environment.

Responsibilities include leading wellness orientations, promoting programs, and maintaining accurate member records while upholding YMCA policies and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Current national Personal Training Certification required (YMCA, ACA, ACSM, NSCA, AFAA, ISSA or other that meet YUSA guidelines).
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and sell wellness services and programs in a friendly, non-intimidating manner.
  • Demonstrate proper exercise technique and safety during orientations and sessions.
  • Assist members in goal setting and develop plans aligned with YMCA wellness programs.

PERSONAL TRAINERJOB DESCRIPTION:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Southern Arizona, a leading nonprofit committed to strengtheningcommunities. The Personal trainer assists YMCA members in finding new ways to inspire healthier habits throughhealth & wellness. This position will work closely with members in promoting wellness and helping individualsrealize their personal best. Personal trainers areresponsible for developing relationships with members andassisting them through the process of actively working towards better health by providing support,encouragement, and education.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A PERSONAL TRAINER:
  • Takes professional initiative to offer information, promote and sell wellness services and programs in an anon-intimidating manner.
  • Demonstrates correct stances, posture, alignment and technique during wellness orientations and wellnesssessions; shows safe, effective ranges of motion and exercise control, demonstrates strength & endurance maintaining role-model form throughout.
  • Understands the prevention, detection, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, basic emergencyprocedures, and the legal and professional responsibilities of personal trainers.
  • Conducts post-enrollment assessments to understand new members’ definition of well-being, personalgoals, cultural background, healthcare needs, diverse abilities and interests to develop a plan to meet theirindividual needs that align with the YMCA client management process.
  • Provides exceptional member service by exceeding expectations; consistently greets and acknowledgesevery person to encourage wellness participation.
  • Engages in active listening with prospects, members and program participants in order to buildrelationships, understand an individual's goals and interests and takes the initiative to ensure they have apositive experience.
  • Utilizes current operating software systems to maximize the individuals experience through membershipsales, program registrations, and other software functions.
  • Receives and documents payments to ensure a balanced end-of-shift report.
  • Assists with administrative tasks that include responding to emails, keeping accurate member records andscheduling appointments.
  • Follows and enforces all YMCA procedures and policies including enforcing facility access procedures andmembership policies; ensures general safety and equipment guidelines are adhered; carries outemergency plans as appropriate; enforces all member codes of conduct, rules and policies including, butnot limited to, age restrictions, dress codes, language and proper use of YMCA equipment and facilities.
  • Effectively communicates unusual situations and unresolved issues to the appropriate member ofleadership ensuring the best interest of all parties involved.
  • Initiates appropriate actions to maintain safety, cleanliness and organization throughout the facility, withpriority being the health and wellness department.
  • Effectively engages with diverse groups of people with different abilities and backgrounds.
  • Integrate the mission of the YMCA and follow the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibilityinto the healthy living aspect of job responsibilities.
  • Is knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA Annual Campaign.
  • Successfully completes and passes periodic skill assessments and performance evaluations.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of consumers by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse risk management training, following procedures for high-risk activities and supervision, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and adhering to mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Attends continuing education, mandatory training, and staff meetings.
  • Maintains all job-related certifications on file.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A PERSONAL TRAINER:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current national Personal Training Certification required (YMCA, ACA, ACSM, NSCA, AFAA, ISSA or other that meet YUSA guidelines).
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of technology.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications for Infants/Children/Adults within thirty (30) days of hire.
  • Completion of HIPAA and YMCAonline training upon dateof hire and periodically thereafter.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule.
PART-TIME BENEFITS:
  • Free YMCA membership for employee, one additional adult and all the employee's dependents under age 24, living in the household

  • One (1) hour of sick time accrued for every 30 hours worked (can use up to 40 hours per year)
