Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County in Encinitas is seeking a Personal Trainer to build positive relationships with members, assess goals, and deliver customized training programs while maintaining safety and certification boundaries.

You will demonstrate correct form, provide modifications, and lead group and individual sessions, ensuring a welcoming experience and helping members achieve health and wellness goals.

Qualifications

• Certification in fitness or a related field (ACE/ACSM/ISSA/NASM) or equivalent.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to instruct and adapt for all fitness levels.

Responsibilities

• Create a positive member experience and engage participants during workouts.
• Demonstrate proper form, modifications, and cues for safe workouts.
• Maintain a clean, safe workout area and equipment.
• Lead training sessions within scheduled times and adapt as needed.
• Help members reach health and wellness goals through guidance.
• Communicate effectively with groups and individuals.
• Support safety and respond appropriately in emergencies.
• Complete all required trainings within 90 days.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Overview

The Personal Trainer is responsible for building positive relationships among members, participants, volunteers, and staff by actively greeting and providing excellent customer service, guidance, and leadership. The Trainer creates and delivers Personal Training programming based on participant’s goals and abilities while maintaining boundaries of certification. The Personal Trainer will instruct participants on correct position and body alignment to prevent injuries.

Responsibilities

• Create a positive member experience through welcoming participants and ensuring they are actively engaged in their workout
• Provide a safe workout routine by demonstrating proper form and technique, appropriate modifications, and cueing.
• Maintain a clean and safe workout area
• Effectively utilize scheduled training time
• Properly set up and breakdown class equipment in allotted timeframe
• Build community through forming positive relationships through learning names, and helping members reach their Health & Wellness Goals
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency
• Physical ability to lead and participate in exercise/fitness activities
• Ability to communicate verbally to large and small groups of members
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• NCCA Accredited Certification: ACE, ACSM, ISSA, NASM, 4 year degree in related field or 1 year Exercise Science Certification, or specialty certification specific to training type
• All job required trainings within 90 days from date of hire
• Strong communication skills and the capability to work with members of all fitness levels and abilities
• Knowledge of fitness principles and practical applications required
• Licensing, state law and our government funders require that staff within YMCA of San Diego County be fingerprinted, prior to reporting to work, and includesubsequentarrest notifications
• CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification, must include Adult and Child/Infant, obtained within30 daysofhireand must be from one of the following certifying organizations:
  • American Red Cross
  • American Heart Association
  • American Safety & Health Institute

Pay Range
