Key Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supports the Mission and Vision of the YMCA and builds community.
- Builds a personal training clientele including one-on-one and small group training.
- Demonstrates clear explanations and exercise material with proper form and technique.
- Develops positive relationships with members and provides motivational support and guidance.
- Participates in Trainer Education Lectures for members.
- Tracks client progress.
- Follows up with each client in a timely manner and on a regular schedule.
- Meets or exceeds monthly personal training session goals as determined by the Health and Wellness Director.
- Promotes personal training services to members through outreach, demonstrations, and events.
- Operates all equipment properly and reports any problems promptly.
- Availability to work shifts on gym floor as support staff as needed.
- Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Attends trainings and meetings as scheduled and participates in YMCA-sponsored training to enhance skills and maintain certifications.
Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- Two or four-year degree in Exercise Science or related field preferred but not required.
- Nationally accredited certification (preferred: NSCA, ACSM, NASM).
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
- Enthusiastic, passionate, friendly, and ambitious personality.
- Ability to perform fitness assessments and teach progressive exercise programs focused on member’s goals.
- Ability to instruct and observe participants using proper exercise techniques.
- Ability to create and monitor safe and effective exercise programs for individuals, recognizing members’ potential and limitations.
- Ability to sell the value and life-changing benefits of personal training to members.
- Proficiency with member management software for tracking clients and communication.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive environment for members of all backgrounds, abilities, and experiences.
- Reliability, dependability, flexibility, and adaptability.
- Mature judgment and sound decision-making.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Observant, safety-conscious, able to react calmly and quickly in emergencies.
